Screen enclosure extensions are quite common as developers and pool builders tend to leave just enough space to say ‘has a lanai’ or ‘pool enclosure included’, and not enough space for any practical function.
This project was done by Gulf Coast Aluminum and encompasses many aspects of patio construction making it a perfect project for a play by play!
The  homeowner wanted to extend the enclosure about 7′ and add a roof area to accommodate a grill.  There was a catch, the roof line of the screen enclosure extension needed to match that of the current enclosure.  “No problem, it can be done” was the response from Gulf Coast Aluminum.  In this case it was structurally possible to extend the roof line, on other enclosures it is not possible.
This 3D rendering shows the proposed extension.

From Here Mouseover The ‘Hot Spots’ On Each Picture
Every screen enclosure extension needs a foundation. Â In most cases the slab needs to be extended. Â For this to happen, the foliage is removed and the area is ‘formed’ for a new concrete slab
Footers have been dug around the outside edge for stability. All foliage has been removed and site cleared in preparation for concrete.
After the concrete is down finishing work on the deck is completed.  In this case it was a paint & texture finish, the most common pool deck finish in Florida.  Finishing work doesn’t have to be done at this time, and might not be depending on the situation.  After that it is time to start building!
In the next picture, the deck finishing has been completed, the enclosure has been extended, and the super gutter is in place.
Screen enclosure roof has been extended. Paint & Texture finish on the new deck has been completed.
Carrier beam for new roof is up. Â New roof will go up next.
The roof is up and the project is done. Â The final result comes together well and you can’t even tell it was an extension 3″ insulated composite panel roof.
Roof line looks seamless!
Pool equipment was relocated outside of the screen enclosure area.
Thats a wrap! Â I hope that gives you a nice look at how screen enclosure extensions come together! Â Many thanks to Gulf Coast Aluminum for their awesome work on this project and allowing me document it!
Already have concrete there and a pool cage. I am interested in POSSIBLY extending the pool cage to encompass an existing concrete area that is connected to the pool area. How much would that be
I have been thinking about getting a pool enclosure for my house. I think that it would be nice so that I can extend the pool season for us. Because of the costs, we have been looking into pool enclosure financing.
I am looking to extend an existing lanai and pool enclosure In my Cape Coral fl home. Is it possible to extend the existing cage or would it have to replaced?
It depends on how the enclosure was built but in most cases an enclosure cannot be extended. Larger beams would be required for the increased spans.
Thank you for the quick response.
Michelle
I need to extend my lanai with screenroof above and concrete flooring below. Please fix a time to come check and provide me with an estimation. Thanks
????????????
kenneth, I’m looking to do something exactly along these lines with extending my current screen out as well as adding concrete (where grass currently is) in the near future….ballpark wise would I still be in the 3k to 5k range?
