Did You Consider Gutter & Downspout Location?

Written By Kenneth Wilson  |  0 Comments

As we know, pool enclosures are generally connected to the house with a super gutter.  With the gutters comes downspouts that will eventually show the water to the ground and a way from your home.  As simple as it sounds, this a commonly overlooked aspect of having a pool enclosure or patio structures built.

Where will the run off water go?

Optimally the water will be directed outside of the enclosure and into a grassy area.  Sometimes though that is not the case.  Many times low price contractors, who focus on simply delivering the lowest price, will of course choose the cheapest option which just includes plopping the downspout in the most convenient area for them — after all you get what you pay for.  Contractors  who charge a premium will usually be open to routing the downspout into the best area.  All in all it is best to discuss downspout location before proceeding with a project and pay a little more to avoid an inconvenient pool of water.

In this picture below an enclosure was built with a gutter and downspout that halts right at the end of the pool enclosure and splashes on to a paver patio.  The optimal way of handling thins would be to route the gutter and downspout across the eave of the house and over to a grassy area.

About the Author

I can build it, and I can help you get the patio enclosure you want! I got my start in the Florida patio industry back in the 70s as a young general laborer looking for something to make a few bucks. At the time I never thought it would end up as my career. Over the years I grew beyond the laborer position, becoming a foreman, superintendent, and then into executive management for some of the largest patio contractors, and material vendors. Now into retirement and slightly bored, I offer consulting services to new and existing contractors, and publish this website to help the people who love their patio's and screen enclosures the most - YOU!
